I'm just starting out! What skates and gear do you recommend?Everyone has a different skating style, discipline, fit and style preference. There are so many options on the market and as we are an events organisation, we would suggest you speak to a specialist retailer who can guide you through the options and ensure a good, comfortable fit for you. Choose from quads (traditional 2x2 wheeled) or inlines (3, 4 or 5 wheels in a row). Disciplines include street, freestyle, aggressive, wizard, slalom, downhill, SUV (offroad) and more The Grand Skate Tour's main events are based around covering distance around cities and countryside. For this you need to have a good level of speed, fitness and control. Inlines are best, but many experienced quad skaters are able to keep (and in some cases, set) the pace. Both quads and inlines are a great way to enjoy our Roller Discos and Jamming sessions. Get in touch with Slick Willie's, who'll be happy to guide you to the right choice for you!

What type of events are going on?The Grand Skate Tour offers events for all abilities and various skating disciplines. Most dates will have several sub-events, including Roller Disco, Advanced Beginner Street Skate, Jamming Session and the big Grand Skate Tour Street Skate for competent skaters who are able to keep speed over a distance of around 8-10 miles. Once you've mastered standing up and keeping balance, Roller Discos are a great place to practise your skills and get ready for life on the streets! If you've got the hang of stopping, turning and getting over a few obstacles such as kerbs, then join us for an Advanced Beginners Street Skate, where we'll cruise the street for approx 2 to 3 miles at a pace to match the slowest in the group. Jamming is dancing on skates. Requires great balance, but you can join in at any level. Hear the music, feel the vibe and just have fun in your own style! Like a bit of speed and distance? Mastered control of your skates and want to push to the next level, then join in the main Grand Skate Tour Street Skate. We'll skate in a marshaled group at a set pace around a pre-defined route, taking in the sights and providing a spectacle to on-lookers as we cruise by with the music pumping and feeling (and looking) awesome! These are normally in the evening, so lights and safety gear is highly recommended since some areas can be dark and we are mainly on the roads. Our experienced marshals will do everything possible to keep the group safe from traffic and obstacles. In return, we ask that you keep up with the group and don't go in front of the lead marshals so that we can keep the whole group safe. With all our events, we ask that you respect the direction of the marshal team (the Green Team) and recommend you wear suitable safety equipment for your abilities. You remain responsible for your own safety and the suitability of your equipment. Whilst we want everyone to come and experience these great events, please don't be offended if we recommend you not to take part in an event. This is for your safety and the safety of the whole group. We want you to be excellent and encourage you to keep practising, join your local groups and try again when you feel able. Feel free to chat to us if you're unsure what is most suitable to your style and ability. If we feel you're not ready for the big street skates, we'll suggest you keep practising and pushing yourself so you can join a future event.

How much does it cost to attend these awesome events? Most our events are free! We just want as many skaters to join in the fun as possible. In return, please follow and subscribe to our social channels and share a few posts. Remember to 'check in' at an event on facebook and tell your friends! This helps our sponsors and supporters to help us with growing the community and getting to more locations! The only exception is the Roller Discos where we need to pay for the venue so charge entry to help cover this. The more attendees and followers we have, the more we can do!

What happens if it's raining on the day?We will only cancel an event if it's absolutely pouring down. Every skater attends at their own risk, so it's up to you if you want to skate in the rain, wet, icy surfaces. Only you can judge how you are feeling and how competent you are to join in. Of course our Roller Discos are normally indoors, so wil go ahead in any weather (except perhaps hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, beasts from the easts etc :) If the weather is extreme, just keep an eye on our social channels for updates on the day!

I'm an individual with quirks.. Am I welcome?Oh yes! We are all individuals and share in the joy of skating, no matter your preferences and background. Dress and dance as you wish, speak freely and just have fun! The more people and the more diverse, the merrier! We just ask that you follow the directions of the marshal team (the Green Team) and stick to the rules in order to keep you and the whole group safe ;)

What if I join a street skate but can't keep up, have a fall, or my equipment breaks?Whilst we have events for all abilities, we ask for the main GST Street Skate that you are competent enough to have complete control on skates and be able to keep a speed of around 8 to 10 mph and cover a distance of around 10 miles. Don't worry, we have scheduled breaks for a rest and refreshment along the route so you can catch your breath. If we notice you are struggling within the first couple of miles we will politely suggest you head back and join the jamming sessions that normally take place at the start/ finish point, then join the afterparty when we return. Please don't be put off, just keep practising and try again at another event. What about other things on wheels? This is a skating group, no? We don't provide safe marshaling for skateboards, long boards, bikes, wheelchairs, kids in buggies etc, but we won't stop you tagging along and having fun, at your own risk of course. We would encourage against bringing infants in buggies, unless you have suitable equipment and experience. Protective gear for all is a must in this situation. We reserve the right to ask any attendee to drop out of the event to ensure we can work our hardest to keep the whole group safe.

I just wanna skate and have fun!Yep, so do we, but we want to have a fun safe time with loads of skaters together, so we just need you to keep between the lead and rear marshals and follow our directions. If you want to hoon ahead, we won't be able to keep you and the rest of the group safe and may cause more traffic disruption and risk to pedestrians. Feel free to go off on your own, but please don't be half with us and half not, politely, just go find your own route ;) Oh, and let a marshal know if you're dropping out of the skate so we know you are safe and not in a ditch somewhere (this just delays the skate for everyone else;) Peace.Love.and Skating!
